Just thought I’d post a update that the Daybreak Redux project is well underway.
Volume 1 has already been fully rewritten and is currently halfway through beta, so my planned Milestone 1 has been met on schedule.
In many ways, the setting changes — moving from Weichsel’s Konigsfeld Academy to Rhin-Lotharingie’s Alisia Academy — worked even better than I imagined. It fits better than the original for the characters of 1st volume, and if anything, it added some extra depth to Reynald/Reynaud and the Ariadne-Perceval relationship. New scenes scattered throughout volume 1 should also sets much better expectation of Kaede’s character, from an early discussion about gunpowder to her breaking down Rhin-Lotharingie’s “national myth” to her talk with Cecylia on magic-spurred technological divergence. Feedback so far is that this does help balance all the goofy scenes to highlight that yes, this story has a serious component to it.
Volume 2 has completed drafts for the first five chapters (~25% done), up to the part where Pascal and Sylv negotiates over Kaede. One of the big changes is that Kaede’s recollection of her past has been pushed to the start of volume 2, as I was criticized before for waiting until volume 3 to show her past life. Introducing Emperor Geoffroi earlier in the story is also a significant change for the better, given how importance his eventually becomes for the story as a whole.
In many ways, this really does feel like a fix of everything I did wrong because the original story wasn’t planned from the start.
Hopefully I can keep this pace up and push up the publishing date. We’ll have to see ^^

i remember i was in my 2nd year of engineering and searching for good gender bender stories that i came upon daybreak and started reading it, then i fell in love with the story,
the best thing about the story was how the military formations were easy to understand, even for a kid like me, who didn’t know anything about wars aside from reading the end outcome of the wars from school text books.
admittedly i was very sad when the story stopped, but, now that the rewrite is in the works, i am eagerly waiting to read about hyperion again
hope you stay healthy in these trying times
I remember that I was still in college when I read Daybreak. It’s such a nostalgic feeling; a very pleasant feeling.
