This is a list of characters who appear in more than one chapter, whose actions make a significant impact on the story, or who are repeatedly mentioned in the story due to their influential actions.
I will try to keep this updated every few chapters. Character that are of a human subspecies are noted while ‘normal humans’ are not. Characters with ‘proper introduction’ means they were described in detail by a major character (usually Kaede) in said chapter.
Name Addresses
Note that Daybreak uses a method of addressing characters that sways between using their name versus their surname. This pattern is intentional and is a reflection on the character’s social standing.
Characters who are formally addressed by their position + first/given name (i.e. Professor Albert, General Neithard), are from prestigious noble families who have been around for many generations. Thus, the first name basis is used to separate them from other famous members of the same family, something particularly crucial due to the longevity of mages.
Characters who are formally addressed by their position + last/surname, are from yeomen social class, or are the founders of noble families (i.e. Marshal Moltewitz, Colonel Hammerstein).
There are some exceptions to this rule, which is that many commoners don’t necessarily have a surname. In such cases they are addressed by their position + first/given name again. Commoners of this category tend to be very low rank.
