{"id":589,"date":"2020-07-07T23:27:30","date_gmt":"2020-07-08T04:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/samarandaybreak.wordpress.com\/?p=589"},"modified":"2020-07-07T23:27:30","modified_gmt":"2020-07-08T04:27:30","slug":"daybreak-redux-july-milestone-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/samaran-daybreak.com\/index.php\/2020\/07\/07\/daybreak-redux-july-milestone-update\/","title":{"rendered":"Daybreak Redux &#8211; July Milestone Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just thought I&#8217;d post a update that the <a href=\"https:\/\/samarandaybreak.wordpress.com\/2020\/06\/23\/daybreak-redux-project-announcement\/\"><em>Daybreak Redux<\/em><\/a> project is well underway.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>Volume 1<\/strong> has already been fully rewritten and is currently halfway through beta, so my planned <em>Milestone 1 <\/em>has been met on schedule.<\/p>\n<p>In many ways, the setting changes &#8212; moving from Weichsel&#8217;s Konigsfeld Academy to Rhin-Lotharingie&#8217;s Alisia Academy &#8212; worked even better than I imagined. It fits better than the original for the characters of 1st volume, and if anything, it added some extra depth to Reynald\/Reynaud and the Ariadne-Perceval relationship. New scenes scattered throughout volume 1 should also sets much better expectation of Kaede&#8217;s character, from an early discussion about gunpowder to her breaking down Rhin-Lotharingie&#8217;s &#8220;national myth&#8221; to her talk with Cecylia on magic-spurred technological divergence. Feedback so far is that this does help balance all the goofy scenes to highlight that yes, this story has a serious component to it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Volume 2<\/strong> has completed drafts for the first five chapters (~25% done), up to the part where Pascal and Sylv negotiates over Kaede. One of the big changes is that Kaede&#8217;s recollection of her past has been pushed to the start of volume 2, as I was criticized before for waiting until volume 3 to show her past life. Introducing Emperor Geoffroi earlier in the story is also a significant change for the better, given how importance his eventually becomes for the story as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>In many ways, this really does feel like a fix of everything I did wrong because the original story wasn&#8217;t planned from the start.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully I can keep this pace up and push up the publishing date.
